Rhinos are darted using an immobilizing drug. The rhino is blindfolded to prevent any visual stimuli in producing adrenalin and counteracting the drug. The Veterinarian on site will perform a couple of standard procedures before the animal is woken eg. blood samples will be taken, the horns measured, parasite treatment if necessary  and lastly an identity chip will be placed into the horn. The animal is then partly woken up by the veterinarian on site and carefully guided into the recovery trailer or transport crate.
